Access and Best Time to Visit

Open daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., the park is a hub of activity, especially during the summer months. The late spring through early fall is considered the best time to visit, offering an array of warm-weather activities like swimming, boating, fishing, and hiking​​.

Camping Facilities

Father Hennepin State Park offers excellent camping opportunities with 103 wooded drive-in sites, including 51 electric sites and several that are wheelchair accessible. For larger groups, there are six seasonal group campsites, open from spring until the end of October. The campgrounds provide essential amenities like seasonal wheelchair-accessible showers, restroom facilities, and a dump station, ensuring a comfortable stay for all visitors​​.

Recreational Activities

Hiking enthusiasts can explore the park’s trails, totaling over four miles, which wind through diverse landscapes, from hardwood forests to the rocky edges of Mille Lacs Lake. The park’s location on the lake also makes it a paradise for water recreation. During the winter, the park transforms into a serene landscape for snowshoeing, offering a quiet retreat amid snow and ice. The main gate is closed to vehicular traffic from November onward, but foot traffic is allowed, providing a unique opportunity to experience the park’s wintry beauty​​.
