The Remer family’s journey with their Christmas tree farm is a story of passion and dedication. What started as a venture by Jim’s father has been meticulously nurtured through generations. The farm, once a large-scale operation under his father, has evolved under Jim’s stewardship, maintaining a perfect balance between tradition and sustainability.
Spanning approximately 10 acres, the farm is a verdant oasis of balsam and spruce trees, with a sprinkling of Norway and Scotch pines and Fraser firs, reflecting the changing preferences of their customers over the years. The trees, typically eight to ten years old, embody the perfect combination of size and shape, thanks to the diligent annual shearing—a testament to the hard work and care invested by the Remer family.
At Remer’s Nursery, the Christmas season, from November to December, is a time of joy and ease, when families flock to select their perfect tree. This period stands in stark contrast to the rest of the year, filled with the rigorous yet rewarding task of nurturing and shaping these green giants.
The heart of Remer’s Nursery lies in its strong community roots. Most of their business thrives on the robust word-of-mouth endorsements from satisfied customers. Jim, along with his wife Char, who is an integral part of the business, has maintained the farm’s quaint, local character, deliberately keeping advertising to a minimum to preserve the intimate, personalized experience for their visitors.
The nursery is more than just a business for the Remers; it’s a family affair. Jim’s children and extended family often join in during the winter season, adding to the warm, familial atmosphere of the farm.
Open on weekends from Friday through Sunday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Remer’s Nursery offers both the experience of choosing your tree in the field and the convenience of selecting from pre-cut trees. Outside these hours, the Remers welcome appointments, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to find their perfect Christmas tree.
